Stop At: Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand, Moo 6 Tambon Thamairuak, Tha Yang 76130 Thailand

Departure from the hotel in Bangkok early in the morning (around 0600 AM) to reach the city of Petchburi.

Arrival at the headquarters of the Wildlife Friends Foundation, a non-governmental project based on the financial and active support of private individuals. The aim of the foundation is to rehabilitate, cure and protect wild animals rescued from places where they were exploited and abused, such as working, tourist attractions, private zoos, captured by poachers and so on. Visiting the foundation is one way to contribute to their protection and welfare and to maintain them in n natural reserve.

The excursion lasts a full day. Upon arrival, one of the volunteers of the Foundation will show you the various sections of the camp and explain the types of assistance and care offered daily to the animals.

Afterwards, the guide will show the 450 animals (elephants, monkeys, felines, bears) while describing their sad stories, the reasons why they were rescued and brought to the foundation.

Lunch at the Foundation - Thai-Vegetarian buffet style together with all the volunteers of the foundation.

After lunch, we follow the attendants in their daily activities. The most pleasant and entertaining is the short walk alongside the elephants, which ends at a river where the elephants refresh themselves and are washed and brushed. This is a unique opportunity to interact with the elephants.

Afterwards we visit other areas of the foundation, reserved for other animals, including bears and various types of felines.

The visit to the foundation ends at 15:30.

Stop At: Phetchaburi Provincial City Pillar Shrine, Khlong Kra Saeng, Phetchaburi 76000 Thailand

Departure from Bangkok early in the morning towards Petchaburi, an ancient city located about 130 km from the capital.

Upon arrival, we visit Tham Khao Luang, a spectacular cave that encloses a chedi and an image of the reclining Buddha, particularly suggestive in the morning when the sunlight enters from above through a crack in the cave roof.

The descent into the cave is rather slippery due to the accumulated mud, so it is not recommended to elderly visitors.

Lunch in a typical restaurant.

Visit Phra Nakorn Kiri Historical Park, located on the 95 meters hill known as Khao Wang. This is the pride and symbol of the city. It was built under the royal command of King Rama IV to become his summer palace and works were finished in 1860. A small cable car leads to the top.

The whole complex is made up of halls, palaces, temples and other royal buildings, elegantly built in a mix of Thai and european architecture.

Visit the royal family's private temples: Wat Phra Kaew, a replica of the homonymous temple at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, and Phra That Jompetch, a 40-meters tall white pagoda that encloses a Buddha relic. Visitors should be careful with the dozens of monkeys that populate the hill, known to snatch food from visitors bags.

Return to Bangkok in the afternoon.

Stop At: Wat Tham Rong, Tham Rong, Ban Lat District, Phetchaburi 76150, Thailand

Wat Tham Rong is a quaint temple situated in a quiet rural setting. The temple is picturesque, but no more so than many of the other temples in Thailand. However, what makes this place different is across the road – Luang Por Dham. This is a cave housing a sacred Buddha that is estimated to be over 700 years old. The cave and the statues inside are spellbinding. They have been preserved magnificently given their age and location.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Khao Wang (Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park), Phetchaburi Thailand

The park consists of three building groups on the three peaks of the 95m high hill. On the western peak is the palace with adjoining structures which is now the Museum. On the middle or central peak is a big chedi named Phra That Chom Phet (the White Pagoda). The eastern peak houses the Wat Phra Kaeo, the royal temple (the red Pagoda), built in similar fashion to the Wat Phra Kaeo in Bangkok. The whole complex was built as a summer palace by King Mongkut, with construction finishing in 1860.

Access to Phra Nakhon Khiri is best done by using the cable car, otherwise it is a steep climb. Once at the top, please beware of the monkeys – they will grab bottles and other things from you. Please also be aware that whilst an effort has been made to make this place friendly for people with walking difficulties, it still has steep stairs and often steep and uneven walkways.
