-Wai Khru Ram Muay is a ritual performed by participants before fighting in muay Thai competitions. The wai is a traditional Thai greeting with the palms together as a sign of respect. Khru is the Thai form of the Sanskrit word guru meaning teacher. Ram is the Thai word for dancing in classical style, and muay means boxing. The full term can therefore be translated as "war-dance saluting the teacher" The ram muay shows respect and gratitude to the boxer's teacher, their parents, and to their ancestors. While some styles of meditation promote and enhance our ability to remain focused, this particular style of walking meditation allows us to practice the art of observation. Or in other words, instead of practicing "being awake", we are practicing "waking up". This allows us to observe our internal experience from an outsider's perspective. Instead of thinking your thoughts, you will see your thoughts. And in completing the practice, you will be able to take this skill into your daily lives, where you will be able to begin to let go of the way that your thoughts, emotions, assumptions, and expectations control your behavior. By experiencing non attachment in the practice, you will see how you can integrate it into your daily lives.

Itinerary

Inner Walk is a walking meditation practice that allows us to learn the art of quiet and objective observation, and gain the use of this tool to apply to our daily lives. When we are able to observe our inner narrative, it begins to lose its power over us, and we can raise our quality of life.

By walking in a freestyle pace, for 4 hours a day, 4 days in a row, we allow our natural inner experience to arise, and create the space to observe it objectively. By watching this inner experience, instead of living inside of it, we can find that which lies underneath it all – our true and authentic selves, clean of the story we think is who we are. The practice includes a dharma talk at the beginning of each day, followed by 4 hours of silent walking, and finishing with a sharing circle for the group. The practice is facilitated by the Buddhist monk who founded the practice, together with an experienced team of facilitators, teachers, and coaches to support the journey of each member in the group.
